hello
I’m Yiqian.
I am polyvagal-trained and a former coach with years of experience in different forms of contemplative movements including yoga, qigong, and tai chi.
Ever curious about learning more about myself, my journey in self-work started in early 2011 after it occurred to me that I knew nothing of myself.
In the years that followed, I earnestly read up on self-improvement late into the nights. Yet it wasn’t until a fateful day in November 2021 when I realised that despite the amount of self-work I had undertaken over the decade, I could still be rendered helpless in the face of my deepest fears.
Sitting in my room sobbing uncontrollably for hours that day, I knew then it was make or break. In that moment, I made a decisive commitment to push through to finally look at my deepest fear in its face.
Resolving to delve into and understand the source of my fear, I found Dr Bessel Van Der Kolk’s book, The Body Keeps The Score, which helped me understand why I had not yet been able to overcome my fears — because I was trying to figure it out with my logical mind.
Finally realising that working with my body is key to releasing the impact of trauma trapped in my body, I started somatic therapy and deepened my understanding of the body through my trainings in yoga, somatics, and restorative modalities, as well as the physiology of our nervous system
In the years since, I continue to be in awe of what my body teaches me about myself. Besides deepening my work with my own body, I have also found joy in helping others reconnect to their bodies and lead a better quality of life.
In my classes and workshops, I artfully blend my background in holistic modalities with an appreciation of our human physiology and nervous system.
I also published my first book, One Step From Paradise, in 2009.
